THE EBI VISION
Volume 13, Issue 1, Spring 2008
DIRECTOR TO RETIRE
Dr. Marvin Stephens made known his intent to retire to the EBI staff and Board members at the annual Board meeting January 25th. He will not be leaving EBI in the near future, but announcing his intent to retire will allow time to find a new director/business manager, and will facilitate a smooth transition. Dr. Stephens and his wife have been with EBI for fourteen years and have seen the Lord bless and increase the vision and scope of this ministry.
PASTORS’ CONFERENCE IN ALABAMA
The Hillikers have traveled several times to Madison, Alabama. What is there that persuades them to go? The answer is a group of people who treat them like family and love EBI publications. They have come together for the Annual Church Conference of the Hispanic congregation of the Madison Baptist Church.
How far would you travel to go to a church conference? The Hillikers have been at the door to see vanloads of people coming from as far away as Atlanta, Georgia, as well as people from Tennessee and other parts of Alabama. What reasons would there be for them to make such an effort to travel to this conference? The great preaching would be one reason, another would be the good fellowship and, of course, for a good Baptist, the food. At the Madison conference there is a sufficient quantity of all three. But the wonderful thing about the conference is the way the Lord works in lives during those days. This year several families gave their lives to the Lord for full time service.
Although the Hillikers are there to represent EBI, both have had opportunity to minister during the conference. Gary has preached to the group, Bernie has taught the ladies, and both have been involved in teaching the children. But their main objective is to provide EBI publications for pastors and teachers and help them to see how the literature can be used in the church. Even though they have been at the conference several times they always come back amazed at how much they have sold.
SOMETHING NEW!
Recently we have added children’s coloring books to our inventory. These books were designed by the aunt of one of our missionaries and depict Bible stories beginning with Genesis and covering the major stories of the Old Testament, and the life of Jesus. There are fifteen in the complete set. Many customers have been ordering these books to use with younger Sunday school classes. The cost per book is $1.50.
EQUIPMENT
A number of years ago EBI purchased a digital duplicator for use in printing shorter runs of materials. Over the years this machine has been used more than we anticipated, and we have an increasing need for this equipment at the same time that its age is catching up with it. As this Vision is being written the duplicator is running after lengthy repairs. The time will soon come when we will be told that it can no longer be serviced. Before we make any decisions to replace this equipment, several of the staff and EBI Board members will meet for strategic planning meetings (April 17th – 19th). At these meetings we hope to set the course for the future of EBI, including our equipment needs. Pray for those participating in these sessions.
IN SYMPATHY
We at EBI are saddened about the Home going of one of our faithful Board members, Timothy Gelatt who died on Tuesday, February 11, 2008. Tim served with Baptist Mid-Missions in Chile before becoming Director of Enlistment for Midwest United States. Our prayers and sympathy are extended to Tim’s family. We rejoice that his suffering is over and he is in Heaven with the God he served. He will surely be missed.
We are also saddened by the death of Jeanette Muckley, the wife of Board member, Steven Muckley. Jeanette was a dear saint of God and will be missed by all who knew her.
